  • Initial visits are either 60 minutes for babies and young children and 90 minutes for adults.

Follow-up appointments for adults are 60 – 90 minutes, depending on the complexity of conditions. Young children’s follow-up appointments last anywhere from 30-60 minutes depending on the child’s tolerance.

  • Dress comfortably for unrestricted mobility. Denim is difficult to feel through, so please wear light fabrics or we can provide you with a pair of shorts to change into. Wearing an undershirt is helpful in case Dr. Venables needs to examine more closely your spine.

  • It is difficult for parents to plan the perfect timing for the appointment. It usually works best if the baby is comfortable. Usually if they ate an hour or so in advance and are not overtired, the appointment goes well. Dr. Venables is prepared to stop and go as needed for any reason that comes up. If the baby is too fussy or needs to eat or breastfeed, then there is time to do that. Dr. Venables may talk while you are feeding or calming your baby or she may treat while you are holding them. Babies often fuss during treatments and even cry at times. This is expected. Treatments are effective and always include short, comforting breaks to put the baby at ease.

It helps if you bring a pacifier or a favorite toy. Dr. Venables keeps many eye-catching toys or music at hand to help as well.
